BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2014

O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. We are so glad that we can gather together to give thanks to God today. And we are so glad that you are here to join us. May God richly bless you.

Because of serious economic problems, the Officials in Zimbabwe are tapping into mega churches as a new source of revenue. Having observed hundreds of tourists descend into Nigeria to visit Pastor T. B. Joshua’s mega church, Zimbabwe’s tourism minister is now offering incentives to churches through the elimination of import taxes on church vehicles. In addition he is granting special incentives to hotels and restaurants that provide services to churches. He has declared two churches to be religious tourism destinations. This includes the 40,000 seat Zion Christian Church. “Basically we are designating temples as tourism centers”, said Mzembi to the Zimbabwe Independent, “and philosophically this was done by King Solomon”.

This South African nation has long suffered under President Robert Mugabe, who has been accused of rigging elections in his favor always. He has also been accused of wrecking the country’s economy, and attempting to control churches. The Minister of Tourism expects religious tourism to raise a total of one billion dollars a year.

Who can argue with the tourism minister against what he is doing? He even has a scriptural reference to support his action. May God bless Zimbabwe for the favor being shown to His Church. And may His name be glorified. Amen!

Thank You from Sisters-In-Unity
We would like to thank Pr. Emily for the anointed message of salvation brought on Sunday, Apostle Edghill for his support for the ministry, and the Musicians and Worship Team and everyone else who participated and supported. Special thanks to Bro. Hector Cintron for his assistance in the sound booth. Anyone interested in joining the ministry can contact Deaconess Bryan or any one of the leadership team members.

WHY DO WE GIVE?

“WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE NOTION OF GIVING FOR THE SAKE OF GIVING?” ASKED TIM HARFORD, COLUMNIST FOR FINANCIAL TIMES. “THE CLOSER YOU LOOK AT CHARITABLE GIVING, THE LESS CHARITABLE IT APPEARS TO BE.” A STUDY OF DOOR-TO-DOOR FUND-RAISING CAMPAIGNS, FOR INSTANCE, FOUND THAT ORGANIZATIONS EARNED FAR MORE BY SELLING LOTTERY TICKETS THAN BY ASKING FOR DONATIONS.

“THIS HARDLY SUGGESTS A WORLD POPULATED BY ALTRUISTS SEEKING TO DO THE MAXIMUM GOOD WITH THEIR CHARITABLE CASH,” SAYS HARFORD. AT LEAST FOR SOME PEOPLE, THERE’S A SOMETHING-FOR-ME/SOMETHING-FOR-YOU APPROACH TO GIVING.

JESUS ALSO DEALT WITH THE ISSUE OF MOTIVES IN GIVING. WHEN HE SAID NOT TO LET YOUR LEFT HAND KNOW WHAT YOUR RIGHT HAND IS DOING, HE WAS TEACHING THAT OUR MOTIVES FOR GIVING TO GOD AND TO OTHERS MUST BE PURE. OUR GIVING SHOULD BE IN RESPONSE TO GOD’S LOVE. TO ENCOURAGE PURE MOTIVES, JESUS INSTRUCTED PEOPLE TO GIVE AND TO DO GOOD DEEDS IN SECRET WITH NO THOUGHT OF THEMSELVES. GOD, WHO SEES EVERYTHING, WOULD REWARD THEM (MATT. 6:3-4).

OUR GENEROSITY SHOULD BE GOD-CENTERED—NOT TO MAKE US LOOK GOOD, BUT TO PLEASE THE LORD. WITH YOUR NEXT GOOD DEED, ASK YOURSELF: IF I KNEW THAT NO ONE WOULD EVER FIND OUT THAT I DID THIS, WOULD I STILL DO IT? –Marvin Williams

God sees the giver as well as the gift;
the heart as well as the hand.

MEDIA MINISTRY

World Overcomers: WSTA 1340 AM station: Sundays at 12:30 p.m. & Tuesdays at 6:00 a.m.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2014

We greet you in the all-powerful name of Jesus Christ. Welcome, welcome, welcome! May you meet with God today.

On Thursday and Friday of this week Sisters in Unity will convene their 2014 Conference. We give God praise for the important role women have played in the Kingdom of God. Personally, I am most grateful to God for input that kingdom women and mothers in Israel have had in my life, in order to help me to become the man of God that I am today.

God called me to the ministry at the age of sixteen, just after I was born again. I was a very timid individual and lacking greatly in self-confidence. One Saturday morning in the heart of Bridgetown, someone walked up to me from the other side of the road and prophesied the following to me: “God is going to loose your tongue”. It was a woman! She did not know me and I did not know her. But she knew that God had called me and that He was getting ready to use me to preach the gospel.

At the age of nineteen, after preaching in a church service, someone walked up to me and said, “Bro. Edghill, you must pray to God and ask Him to help you that when you preach you would minister.” Again, it was a woman! I consider this to have been a message from God. Ministering in preaching means meeting the people where they are and taking them where God wants to take them. I can go on further, but space would not permit me.

Let us thank God for all Kingdom women and mothers in Israel and give our support and encouragement to them always.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2014

“But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God;

Yea let them exceedingly rejoice.” (Ps. 68:3). We welcome you, the righteous, who love to rejoice before God exceedingly.

The chikungunya virus has recently been declared by the department of health to have reached epidemic proportions here in St. Thomas. This has resulted in a high degree of panic and fear throughout our society. But does God expect us as His children to participate in this trend of fear and panic? Surely not! God has always established His people in the opposite. In addition, He has equipped His people to be trend-setters and not trend-followers. So we must set a faith trend.

We are responsible to do whatever we can to protect ourselves from this awful virus. However, above all things we are to demonstrate faith and trust in Almighty God for our preservation and protection. We must not entertain fear in our lives, because that creates the perfect environment for the Devil to afflict us. On the contrary, we must apply faith which creates the atmosphere for the manifestation of God’s power in our lives.

Even in the midst of this epidemic, God is able to preserve His people. Remember what He says in His Word. “Because thou hast made the Lord which is my refuge, even the Most High thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come near thy dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Ps. 91:9-11).

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2014

We welcome you among us with opened hearts and arms. We are overjoyed that you are here. We believe that you have come by divine design; therefore, you can expect your miracle from God.
California State University schools recently decided that InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) will no longer be a recognized campus organization on any of the 23 schools in that system. This decision has been taken because IVCF requires its leaders to have Christian beliefs. But it’s not just InterVarsity that will be affected, but any group that insists on requiring its leaders to follow any set of guiding beliefs agreed upon. This includes any other faith-based organizations with actual faith-based beliefs.

Note that Christians are not prohibited from sharing their faith. But what we once knew as “equal access” has taken another blow. Christians no longer have equal access to the universities like groups such as the environmentalist club, the LGBT organization and others. The university system has decided that speech with beliefs that undergird it and shape how it is organized, has to be discontinued.

What therefore should be our response in times like these? We must pray and intercede earnestly for our country. We must make ourselves available for God to use us on a one -on- one basis as much as possible to convey the Gospel message. We must become channels of God’s glory.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2014

Welcome to FEA where we are holding forth the Word of life.
May the life of God come into your heart and world today.

We are currently in the political season. I recently read an article in Christianity Today that informed me how the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) has agreed to investigate the political activity of churches. This decision was made after reaching a settlement with the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF). However, a court has yet to decide whether or not to close the case. These parties have jointly asked a Wisconsin federal court recently to dismiss a 2012 lawsuit in which the FFRF had alleged that the IRS failed to have a policy in place for investigating political activity at tax-exempt churches and religious organizations. The FFRF had also accused the IRS of not enforcing its 501(c)(3) codes against electioneering.

“We’re pleased with this development in which the IRS has proved to our satisfaction that it now has in place a protocol to enforce its own anti-electioneering provisions,” said FFRF co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor in a press release.

However, regardless of the court’s final decision, the IRS won’t be free to investigate churches until a moratorium related to the agency’s controversial scrutiny of tea party organizations is lifted after a congressional investigation closes.

But it is amazing the kinds of restrictions that are being placed on churches today. Who would know best what God is saying about the political direction of a country than the Church. The Devil just wants to keep the Church silent. But he is a liar.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2014

We welcome all of you who have come to worship with us here at FEA. today. You are surely in the right place. May God minister unto you in a convincing and dramatic way.

As expected, the ceasefire in Israel has collapsed as Hamas has resumed its rocket attacks on Israel. These attacks are frightening, even to the most battle-hardened in Israel. Countless citizens have been deeply traumatized by the frequent warning sirens and the resulting hastening into bomb shelters. Small children have been severely affected.

But the most affected of them all have been Israel’s thousands of Holocaust survivors. This week, the president of an Israeli non-profit organization that monitors the well-being of Israel’s Holocaust survivors, described situation as follows:

“For many of these survivors, the recent sirens and explosions brought back old fears and flashbacks to their experiences 70 years prior, reigniting their trauma . . . We are talking about people who aren’t only fragile because of their age, but those who cannot forget what happened to them in the war. For them, every siren brings back dreadful memories of fear, pain, and grief.”

Let us continue to remember the Jewish people and the holy land in our prayers. As we continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the safety of all of God’s people, God has promised that He would bless and prosper us. He is not a man that He should lie or change His mind. He has said it and He will surely do it. Amen!

MEDIA MINISTRY

World Overcomers: WSTA 1340 AM station:

Sundays at 12:30 p.m. & Tuesdays at 6:00 a.m.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 31, 2014

“Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” We thank God that we can come together again. Thank you for being here with us today,

Last Sunday, One Voice hosted a march in support of the traditional marriage (biblical marriage). It commenced at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School and culminated at Emancipation Gardens. It was followed by a Gospel concert. The march was called in light of Senator Judy Buckley’s proposed bill to redefine marriage in the territory.

The march was very impressive indeed and drew a total of over 1000 persons, primarily from the local Christian community. But the shocking thing was that the media did not consider it important enough to put it in the headlines of the news. Channel 2 placed it towards the end of their news package, highlighting a few down-sized pictures with a very brief commentary. They highlighted full-scale pictures of the LGBT group who stood at the corner of the entrance to Emancipation Gardens in opposition. On the other hand, the number 1 news paper in the island, The Daily News, made absolutely no mention of the event.

Believe it or not, these responses from the media, speak volumes about where we are headed as a society. It is very evident that the devil has his agents positioned in strategic places to try to stifle the voice of righteousness in our society. But we, the people of God, must be determined to take our stand for God no matter what the consequences.

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2014

We are so glad that you have decided to join us today. We welcome you with opened hearts and hands.  May the God of all grace fill you with His grace today.

With dynamic metaphors, the writer of the Book of James reveals the power our words possess. He highlights the control of the tongue as he refers to the bit in a horse’s mouth and the rudder on a massive ship. While these images are decidedly neutral, the writer’s third image is unquestionably negative. “How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” he exclaims. Just like a forest fire, the tongue can burn up a life as its words spread rapidly, leaving little hope of reversing or containing the devastation that follows.

James takes a further step to say that the tongue is actually a fire. There is real-world destruction in its path, and its ruin is easily seen. James goes on to say that with our words we become the mouthpiece of hell, because the tongue’s fire is fueled by hell itself. With it we bless God and we curse people.

Words ground our identity, whether positive or negative; whether we are speaking about ourselves or about others. They shape who we are and how we see ourselves. We can’t divorce ourselves from what comes out of our mouths. Jesus made this abundantly clear.

Let us be careful how we speak. God’s Word commands us:

“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt.”

BULLETIN FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 2014

We praise God for another day of worship. We are so glad that you have come to join us on this Family and Friends Day here at our church. We WELCOME you in Jesus’ name.

Many Christians love evangelism as long as somebody else is doing it. It is somewhat a recurring theme that church people frequently talk about or even bemoan the lack of it. However, they themselves are not involved in the activity. It is my opinion that the vast majority of people, who profess Christianity, have probably never shared their faith, calling on someone to trust and follow Jesus Christ.

A recent study of churchgoing Canadians was very disturbing. It revealed that 59 percent of them had not invited anyone to church in the previous six months. And, even though 58 percent said they feel comfortable sharing their faith, 78 percent said that they had not shared that faith with anyone in the previous six months. American churchgoers were no different.

The prayer of my heart is that God would help us as a church and as individual believers to be always conscious of the lost around us. Thus on Friday August 22, we will be returning to Savan to spread the message of the Gospel. We are urging all to get involved and join us in this outreach effort. Let us position ourselves so that God can use us in the business of kingdom expansion.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEWLY WEDS
Apostle and Pastor Emily Edghill, along with the F.E.A. family, extend congratulations to newlyweds Gilner and Paula Jerome.

Ten tips to plan ahead this hurricane season.

1.      Check your insurance coverage to make sure it reflects the current state of your home.
2.      Doing a home inventory can save you time. Document the contents and Keep receipts for valuables.
3.      Protect your property by installing hurricane shutters.
4.      Create a safe room that can withstand high winds and flying debris.
5.      Keep up with your landscaping, remove diseased and damaged tree limbs, etc.
6.      Stock your emergency supply kit with basic survival items.

  • 2-week supply of water
  • Ready to eat non-perishable food items for every family member and pet.
  • If you evacuate, you’ll want a 3-day supply of the same.
  • Remember medicines for yourself and all family members.

7.      Have an established evacuation plan to help reduce stress.
8.       If you don’t have transportation of your own, make arrangements now with friends or family members and don’t forget about the pets!
9.      Lastly, gather important papers to take with you.
10.  Don’t take silly risks like running back into a home that’s been destroyed or refuse to evacuate when you’ve been ordered to, just to salvage material possessions. Things can be replaced, but people cannot.
