It is with great joy that we welcome you in the midst of the most powerful gathering in the world – the Church of Jesus Christ. May God minister unto you today.

A few days ago, in remarks relayed to an Israeli news site, the Iron Dome battery commander recalled the following:  “A missile was fired from Gaza. Iron Dome precisely calculated its trajectory. We know where these missiles are going to land down to a radius of 200 meters. This particular missile was going to hit either the Azrieli Towers, the Kirya (Israel’s equivalent of the Pentagon) or a central Tel Aviv railway station. Hundreds could have died.”

“We fired the first interceptor. It missed. Second interceptor. It missed. This is very rare. I was in shock. At this point we had just four seconds until the missile landed. We had already notified emergency services to converge on the target location and had warned of a mass-casualty incident. “Suddenly, Iron Dome (which calculates wind speeds, among other things) shows a major wind coming from the east, a strong wind that…sends the missile into the sea. We were all stunned. I stood up and shouted, ‘There is a God!’  “I witnessed this miracle with my own eyes. It was not told or reported to me. I saw the hand of God send that missile into the sea.”

We have been praying for the manifestation of God’s glory over Israel during this war. Thank God He is doing it. Let us continue praying for even greater manifestations of His Glory and that as a result many of the Jews will be saved.

Keep the Fire Burning

Modern furnaces have taken the work out of keeping warm in the cold climates. We simply set the timer on the thermostat, and the house is warm when we get up in the morning. But in former days, fire was carefully tended and fuel supplies were closely monitored. Running out could be deadly.

 

The same is true spiritually. If we think our “spiritual fire” can be ignited as easily as a modern furnace, we risk losing our fervor for the Lord.

In ancient Israel, the priests were instructed not to let the fire on the altar go out (Lev. 6:9, 12-13). This required a lot of work, not the least of which was collecting firewood in a land not known for its dense forests.

Some scholars see the fire on the altar as a symbol for the flame of our devotion for the Lord. Spiritual passion is not something to be treated lightly or taken for granted. It will grow cold if we fail to keep it supplied with fuel.

The apostle Paul addressed the subject of spiritual fervor in his letter to the Romans (12: 1-2, 11). To keep the fire of our devotion burning strong, we must continue the hard work of stocking our fuel supply with hope, patience, steadfast prayer, generosity, hospitality, and humility (vv. 11-16).—Julie Ackerman Link

“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord”, says the Word of God. We have come to do just that. Thank you for joining us as we seek to execute this truth today.

On Saturday night while preparing for bed, from the top of the mountain I heard the sound of gunshots deep down in the valley. I thought for a while that it was random gunshots. It was not very long after that I heard the sound of sirens. Upon looking though my window, I discovered that there was intense police activity down in Lindbergh Bay.

On Monday morning the Daily News revealed the details of what had happened. A young man, 21 years old, was discovered “unresponsive at 10:13 p.m. …, his body riddled with bullets and still seated in a chair…” The Daily News further revealed that, already for the year, there have been 14 homicides reported in St. Thomas for 2014, 2 for each month.

This is why we have to continue with our outreach ministry. The only answer to this situation is Jesus Christ. Let us come together and pray for our land and let us come together and spread the Word of God throughout our land.

SQUIRREL FEEDER

Some years ago I placed a squirrel feeder on a fir tree a few yards from our home. It’s a simple device—two boards and a nail on which to impale a corncob. Each morning a squirrel comes to enjoy that day’s meal. She’s a pretty thing—black with a round, gray tummy.

I sit on our back porch in the morning and watch her eat. She plucks each kernel from the cob, holds it in her paws, turns it around and eats the heart out of the kernel. At the end of the day no kernels remain, only a neat little pile of leftovers under the tree.

Despite my care for her, the creature is afraid of me. When I approach, she runs away, taking refuge in her tree and chattering at me when I get too close. She doesn’t know that I provide for her.

Some people are like that with God. They run from Him in fear. They don’t know that He loves them and richly provides them with everything for their enjoyment (Ps. 65:11).

Henry Scougal, a 17th-century Scottish minister, wrote, “Nothing is more powerful to engage our affection than to find that we are [loved by] One who is altogether lovely…How must this astonish and delight us; how must it overcome our [fear] and melt our hearts.” God’s love is the perfect love that “casts out fear” (1 John 4:18).—David Roper

“I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord. “ I am sure these words express the desire of all who are present here today. May God minister to every heart.

Israel recently launched a major ground attack on Hamas in Gaza, with the initial focus centered on the under-ground tunnels near the border. This move was unanimously approved by the Israeli security cabinet, and the offensive will be expanded as needed, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Unlike the great “Iron Dome,” Israel’s technology has yet to credibly counter the underground tunnel network. But it is only one part of the ground mission. The other aspect is to stretch Hamas’s ranks thin, deplete the rocket stores, and squeeze the Islamist organization so that reasonable demands can be discussed in an effort to bring peace to the region.

Hamas is a sovereign terror organization in Gaza that repeatedly harasses Israel. They have vowed that Israel will pay a hefty price for sending in its troops. They are also rejecting ceasefire proposals. A number of Hamas fighters were killed so far and others were captured. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has suffered the loss of a few of its soldiers. Other IDF soldiers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Israel has called out over 18,000 reserve troops to join in the battle.

As God’s people, we have a divine mandate to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We cannot afford to fail in this very important duty, especially in light of the continuing crisis.

APOLLO 11 LANDED ON THE SURFACE OF THE MOON ON SUNDAY, JULY 20, 1969. MOST OF US ARE FAMILIAR WITH ARMSTRONG’S HISTORIC STATEMENT AS HE STEPPED ONTO THE MOON’S SURFACE: “THAT’S ONE SMALL STEP FOR A MAN; ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND.” BUT FEW KNOW ABOUT THE FIRST MEAL EATEN THERE.

BUZZ ALDRIN HAD BROUGHT ABOARD THE SPACECRAFT A TINY COMMUNION KIT PROVIDED BY HIS CHURCH. ALDRIN SENT A RADIO BROADCAST TO EARTH ASKING LISTENERS TO CONTEMPLATE THE EVENTS OF THAT DAY AND GIVE THANKS.

THEN, IN RADIO BLACKOUT FOR PRIVACY, ALDRIN POURED WINE INTO A SILVER CHALICE. HE READ, “I AM THE VINE, YOU ARE THE BRANCHES. HE WHO ABIDES IN ME, AND I IN HIM, BEARS MUCH FRUIT” (JOHN 15:5). SILENTLY, HE GAVE THANKS AND PARTOOK OF THE BREAD AND CUP.

GOD IS EVERYWHERE, AND OUR WORSHIP SHOULD REFLECT THIS REALITY. IN PSALM 139 WE ARE TOLD THAT WHEREVER WE GO, GOD IS INTIMATELY PRESENT WITH US. The word of God says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Thank God that we have the breath of life and that we can gather here today to praise His name. Welcome!

A recent Gallup poll on how Americans view the Bible, revealed that most Americans see the Bible as the Word of God. This remains true of 75 percent of the country. But New York Times columnist, Charles Blow, said he was shocked and fascinated by the religious literalism found by the poll. “What worries me”, he said, “is that some Americans seem to live in a world where facts can’t exist,” Others noted the poll’s hike in those who say, “The Bible is an ancient book of fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man.

But the most shocking and fascinating thing the Gallup poll revealed was that 11 percent of non-Christians believe that the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word.” Gallup claims that their question touches on two ongoing debates in Christian theology. The first being, whether the words of the Bible came directly from God, using the writers as scribes; or whether they are the words of men, but guided by divine inspiration. The second question is, if the words of the Bible should be taken literally, or viewed as metaphors and allegories allowing for interpretation.
Whatever the case may be, it is encouraging to know that 75% of our country still believes that the Bible is the word of God. This offers some degree of hope for the future. We need to maximize on this by praying fervently for our nation.

LIMITED BUT USEFUL

SUZANNE BLOCH, AN IMMIGRANT FROM GERMANY, OFTEN PLAYED CHAMBER MUSIC WITH ALBERT EINSTEIN AND OTHER PROMINENT SCIENTISTS. SHE SAID THAT EINSTEIN, THOUGH AN ACCOMPLISHED VIOLINIST, IRRITATED HIS FELLOW MUSICIANS BY NOT COMING IN ON THE BEAT. “YOU SEE,” BLOCH EXPLAINED, “HE COULDN’T COUNT.” EINSTEIN COULD PROJECT REVOLUTIONARY THEORIES ABOUT THE COSMOS, BUT HE HAD DIFFICULTY WITH RHYTHMIC COUNTING. DESPITE HIS LIMITATION, HE REMAINED AN ENTHUSIASTIC MUSICIAN.
DO WE SOMETIMES LAMENT OUR LIMITATIONS? WE ALL HAVE ABILITIES, BUT WE ARE ALSO AFFLICTED WITH INABILITIES. WE MAY BE TEMPTED TO USE OUR LIMITATIONS AS AN EXCUSE FOR NOT DOING THE THINGS GOD HAS ENABLED US TO DO. JUST BECAUSE WE MAY NOT BE GIFTED TO SPEAK IN PUBLIC OR TO SING IN A CHOIR DOESN’T MEAN THAT WE CAN SIT ON THE SPIRITUAL SIDELINES DOING NOTHING.
WHEN WE REALIZE THAT ALL OF US HAVE LIMITATIONS, WE CAN MOVE FORWARD BY SEEKING GOD’S GUIDANCE IN USING OUR GIFTS. SURELY WE CAN PRAY. SURELY WE CAN SHOW KINDNESS TO OTHERS. WE CAN VISIT THE LONELY, THE SICK, THE ELDERLY. WE CAN TELL WITH EFFECTIVE SIMPLICITY WHAT JESUS MEANS TO US. PAUL SAID, “HAVING THEN GIFTS DIFFERING ACCORDING TO THE GRACE THAT IS GIVEN TO US, LET US USE THEM” (ROM. 12:6).

Praise the Lord for another Sunday; another opportunity for
corporate worship. We are commanded in the Word of God
to assemble ourselves together and worship God. Oh how
thankful we are for this privilege!

America’s largest Presbyterian body voted recently to
change its definition of Christian marriage and permit
individual churches to perform same-sex marriages. The
new “authoritative interpretation” of the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.)’s Book of Order gives individual pastors
discretion to perform same-sex ceremonies where the
practice is legal.

The assembly also voted to change the definition of marriage
in the denomination’s constitution. The proposal changes
language referring to marriage as a “civil contract between
a man and a woman” to marriage as “a unique commitment
between two people.” Some at the meeting were concerned
that this decision would encourage a continuing exodus of
conservatives from the denomination. This is something
that has been ongoing since the denomination proposed
the ordination of clergy in same-sex relationships in
2010 and approved the change in 2011. An estimated
350 congregations have left the denomination since then,
according to the Post-Gazette. However, the Associated Press
puts the total at 428 congregations.

As children of God, let us continue to take our stand on the
Word of God and for the Word of God in these crucial times.
Let us bear in mind that we are fighting for our children, our
grandchildren and the generations yet unborn.

WHITEWATER EXPERIENCES

I WAS ENJOYING THE START OF MY FIRST WHITEWATER RAFTING
EXPERIENCE—UNTIL I HEARD THE ROAR OF THE RAPIDS UP AHEAD. MY
EMOTIONS WERE FLOODED WITH FEELINGS OF UNCERTAINTY, FEAR, AND
INSECURITY AT THE SAME TIME. RIDING THROUGH THE WHITEWATER
WAS A FIRST-RATE, WHITE-KNUCKLE EXPERIENCE! AND THEN, SUDDENLY,
IT WAS OVER. THE GUIDE IN THE BACK OF THE RAFT HAD NAVIGATED US
THROUGH. I WAS SAFE—AT LEAST UNTIL THE NEXT SET OF RAPIDS.

TRANSITIONS IN OUR LIVES ARE LIKE WHITEWATER. THE INEVITABLE
LEAPS FROM ONE SEASON OF LIFE TO THE NEXT—COLLEGE TO CAREER,
SINGLENESS TO MARRIAGE, CAREER TO RETIREMENT, MARRIAGE TO
WIDOWHOOD—ARE ALL MARKED BY UNCERTAINTY AND INSECURITY.

IN ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TRANSITIONS RECORDED IN OLD
TESTAMENT HISTORY, SOLOMON ASSUMED THE THRONE FROM HIS
FATHER DAVID. I’M SURE HE WAS FILLED WITH UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE
FUTURE. HIS FATHER’S ADVICE? “BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE,
AND DO IT;…FOR THE LORD GOD—MY GOD—WILL BE WITH YOU” (1
CHRON. 28:20).

YOU’LL HAVE YOUR FAIR SHARE OF TOUGH TRANSITIONS IN LIFE. BUT WITH
GOD IN YOUR RAFT YOU’RE NOT ALONE. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ONE
WHO IS NAVIGATING THE RAPIDS. HE’S TAKEN LOTS OF OTHERS THROUGH
BEFORE. SMOOTH WATERS ARE JUST AHEAD.

Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good… Let the
redeemed of the Lord say so… We give God thanks for
the privilege of coming together to “say so”.

We, the people of the USVI. , need to be aware of what
is happening and begin to pray fervently and intercede
earnestly for our territory. A bill is about to be presented
to the senate, seeking to legalize same -sex marriages
in the territory. The word of God clearly forbids this
conduct: “You shall not lie with a man as with a
woman; it is an abomination.” (Lev. 18:22). “Know
you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
kingdom of God? Be not deceived, neither fornicators
nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate..” (1Cor.
6:9)

As the people of God, we need to use the keys of the
kingdom which God has given to us. He said that
whatever we bind on earth He will respect it in heaven
and whatever we allow in the earth He will respect in
heaven. When we come to understand the degree of
authority that has been given to us, we will begin to see
changes in our society. Let us rise up and exercise our
spiritual authority against this evil that is seeking to
invade our society. It is amazing what can result when

the church takes its stand!

We give God praise and thanks for another day of worship.
We also give a special note of thanksgiving today for fathers
who are fulfilling their God-given roles.
Many of the homes in our society are suffering from absent
fathers and it is very obvious that our culture is in no way
helping to solve the problem. This has resulted in an increase
of rebellious, angry and violent children. It was never
God’s intention for children to be raised without a father.
When God instituted the family in the garden of Eden He
established it with a husband and a wife, who subsequently
became a father and a mother. God did this because He knew
the importance of a father’s influence in a child’s life.

A good father is not just a second adult in the home. He
positively impacts the lives of his children in a way that
no mother or any other person can. He provides spiritual,
physical, mental and social protection for his family. In
addition, he helps to bring financial stability to them and
serves as a positive male role model. He contributes a
parental skill to the home that is significantly different from
that of a mother. That difference is absolutely important in
healthy child development.

Let us keep fathers before God this week in a very special
way. Pray that they will make themselves available to God
for His purpose and plan to be fulfilled in them and in their
homes. Let us also pray that they will be available to their
children in the way that God has prescribed for them to be.

MY DAD WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD
WHEN I WAS A BOY. HE WAS A RESPECTED PASTOR, A GOOD
PREACHER, AND A KIND AND GENTLE LEADER. HIS GIFTS WERE
RECOGNIZED BY SEVERAL BOARDS ON WHICH HE SERVED.
WHEATON COLLEGE REWARDED HIS SERVICE TO CHRIST WITH
AN HONORARY DOCTORATE. PEOPLE OFTEN SAID, “OH, YOU’RE
JOE STOWELL’S SON” OR INTRODUCED ME AS “THE SON OF DR.
STOWELL.” I WAS PROUD OF MY DAD AND WAS SO HONORED TO
BE HIS SON THAT, FOR YEARS, BEING KNOWN AS HIS CHILD WAS
MY SOURCE OF SIGNIFICANCE.

THAT’S BUT A GLIMPSE OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SATISFIED
WITH THE SIGNIFICANCE THAT COMES FROM OUR POSITION
AS A CHILD OF THE KING. BECAUSE OF GOD’S GREAT LOVE
FOR US, HE ADOPTED US AS HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS
(EPH. 1:5). THERE IS NO GREATER HONOR. NO MATERIAL
POSSESSION, FAME, POWER, OR POSITION CAN COMPARE. WHEN
WE EMBRACE THIS REALITY, WE ARE SET FREE FROM THE
TEMPTATION TO MANUFACTURE AND MANIPULATE OUR OWN
SIGNIFICANCE.

THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST HAVE SIGNIFICANCE IN HIM. WE
CAN REJOICE BECAUSE WE ARE CALLED BY HIS NAME. “HE

This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be
glad in it. We praise God for another day that we can gather and
celebrate His name.
Recently, when many church walls came tumbling down across
China, the forced demolition drew widespread international
attention. This was due to photos circulating on China’s version
of Twitter. Now, these photos have documented how local
authorities have continued their campaign to de-Christianize
the skyline of wealthy Wenzhou, one of China’s most Christian
The latest in the report comes from the city of Ningbo, where
famous missionary James Hudson Taylor once worked. Officials
have ordered services to halt at the 1,000-member Xiaying
Holy Love Church, and demolition work has reportedly already
begun, because the church refused to tear down the large cross
at the top of its ten-story building.
Meanwhile, Ian Johnson of The New York Times, offers
a thorough analysis of the much-discussed destruction of
Sanjiang Church. The Telegraph, which has chronicled the
plight of Christians and churches in China’s southeastern
province of Zhejiang this spring, reports that six churches so far
have been completely or partially destroyed.
Reports like these sensitizing us to the plight of our brethren in
other places, should motivate us to pray for them earnestly.
The word of God encourages us to pray for those who are in
bonds. Let us not neglect this most important Christian duty.

JESUS CAN TAKE YOUR “SILVER AND GOLD” AND USE IT TO

Welcome to F.E.A. where we are holding forth the Word
of life. The prayer of our hearts is that your life will be
energized by the life of God as we worship.
We have just concluded our Spiritual Warriors
Convention 2014. God has really been with us in a
very special way. We are very grateful for the way that
Apostle Isaac availed himself to the Holy Spirit in order
to bring God’s purpose to bear upon the convention. It
would have been a very sad thing if we had met and had
not achieved God’s intended purpose. We would have
wasted our time and the Holy Spirit would have been
grieved. But thank God, we can boldly say that the divine
purpose for the convention has been achieved. God is
pleased and we have advanced individually and as a
So where do we go from here? It is now our personal
responsibility to develop, expand and exhaust what we
have received. Let us not allow the thief to rob us out
of the truths which God has deposited in us. But let us
commit ourselves to live by them.
We are going forward; we will not retreat; marching into
battle victoriously because through the double portion

The Bible declares, “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised…” We are so grateful to be counted among those who are in agreement with this truth.

Today commences our Spiritual Warriors Convention 2014. This is an additional opportunity afforded us here at F.E.A. for the Holy Spirit to impart His gifts and His graces to us in accordance with God’s purpose and plan. The only thing that He requires of us is that we make ourselves available to Him so that He can do His work in us. In order for God to use us, we must yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit.

Convention is also a time for signs, wonders and miracles. Whenever the people of God come together in this manner, God always manifests His glory in miracles, healing and deliverance. After all, He said that where two or three are gathered together in His name, He is in the midst. And when God is present we can expect great and mighty things to happen.

Finally, Convention is a time for fellowship one with another. It is always a wonderful thing when the people of God fellowship with one another. The Bible says “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”(Ps. 133:1).

When we dwell together in love and harmony, we attract God’s blessing to our lives.

STEPHEN KUUSISTO GREW UP FEELING A STIGMA ABOUT BEING LEGALLY BLIND. FOR HIM, SIGHT CONSISTED OF A KALEIDOSCOPE OF SHAPES, COLORS, AND SHADOWS. PRIVATELY HE WOULD PRESS HIS FACE CLOSE TO THE PAGE OF A BOOK AND MEMORIZE STREET NAMES IN AN EXHAUSTING ATTEMPT TO APPEAR MORE ABLE TO SEE THAN HE REALLY COULD.

WHEN STEPHEN WAS 39, HIS LIFE CHANGED AFTER HE ACQUIRED AN AFFECTIONATE AND CAREFULLY TRAINED GUIDE-DOG NAMED CORKY. IN LEARNING TO USE CORKY TO LEAD HIM, STEPHEN REFLECTED ON THE GROWING TRUST IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP. HE SAID, “FAITH MOVES FROM BELIEF INTO CONVICTION, THEN TO CERTAINTY. WE ARE A …POWERHOUSE!” WHEN STEPHEN ADMITTED THAT HE NEEDED THE HELP OF A SIGHTED COMPANION, A NEW WORLD OF FREEDOM AND MOBILITY OPENED UP TO HIM.

MANY BELIEVERS BLINDLY STUMBLE THEIR WAY THROUGH THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IN THEIR OWN STRENGTH. SEEMINGLY, THEY ARE UNAWARE THAT GOD HAS PROVIDED A SUPERNATURAL GUIDE TO LEAD THE WAY. JESUS SAID HE WOULD SEND US A COMFORTER WHO WOULD GUIDE US INTO ALL TRUTH (JOHN 16:13). WHEN WE CONFESS ALL KNOWN SIN AND THEN DEPEND ON THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE US (GAL. 5:16, 18), WE BECOME A POWERHOUSE FOR GOD! “FOR WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT” (2 COR. 5:7). —Dennis Fisher
